In brief

Acıbadem Healthcare Group is one of Türkiye's largest private hospital networks, stating 30 hospitals and 17 medical centres across five countries, with twelve hospitals in Istanbul and a Health Point service for international patients. It lists JCI accreditation for seven hospitals, but the group's own page does not say which seven, so confirm the specific hospital you will use in JCI's register.[1]

The hospital

What Acıbadem is

Acıbadem Healthcare Group presents itself as an "integrated ecosystem": hospitals and medical centres, plus mobile health, laboratories, technology and project-management companies and Acıbadem University. It states 30 hospitals and 17 medical centres in Türkiye, Macedonia, Bulgaria, the Netherlands and Serbia, and more than 27,000 employees.

It also describes itself as the largest healthcare service exporter in Türkiye for eight consecutive years, and states that its Health Point offices in 33 countries, 57 cities and 61 locations help bring more than 50,000 foreign patients to Türkiye every year. These are the group's figures and we have not independently verified them. They do indicate that international patients are a major business line, which is useful context: the group will have an established process, and will also have a commercial interest in your booking.

Campuses

Campuses and what each states

Acıbadem Maslak Hospital

Maslak, Istanbul (European side)

Büyükdere Street No: 40, Maslak, Istanbul

  • The hospital states that it entered service in 2009 and that a new 60,000 m² building completed in 2018 brought the enclosed area to 106,000 m².
  • It states 231 patient rooms, 20 general operating theatres, 3 IVF procedure theatres, 51 intensive care beds and LEED Gold certification (a US Green Building Council building-environment rating).
  • It lists units in oncology (including MR-Linac, TrueBeam, da Vinci and whole-body MRI), breast health, IVF, robot-assisted surgery, obesity, spine, cardiac health, migraine, thyroid, sleep disorders, diabetes and arrhythmia.
  • It states a Health Point Center for International Patients on site, through which all treatment and diagnostic procedures of international patients are followed.
  • It states that it holds JCI accreditation.

Acıbadem International Hospital

Yeşilköy, Istanbul (European side)

İstanbul Cad. No: 82, Yeşilköy, Istanbul

  • The hospital states that it began admitting patients in 1989, joined Acıbadem Healthcare Group in 2005 and has operated as Acıbadem International Hospital since 2014.
  • It states 112 beds including 26 intensive care beds, 16 observation beds and 19,000 m² of enclosed space.
  • It lists cardiac health, IVF, breast health and kidney transplantation within an Organ Transplant Center, with intensive care units for general, open-heart, coronary and neonatal patients.
  • It displays a health tourism authorisation certificate on its page.

The other Istanbul hospitals

Altunizade, Ataşehir, Atakent, Bakırköy, Fulya, Kadıköy (Dr. Şinasi Can), Kartal, Kozyatağı, Taksim, Bayındır İçerenköy

  • The group's English site lists ten further Istanbul hospitals, each with its own page and a 'Request Pricing' option. We did not read them individually and make no claim about their services or accreditations.

Hospitals outside Istanbul

Ankara, İzmir, Bursa, Adana, Kayseri, Eskişehir, Bodrum

  • The English site lists Acıbadem Ankara, Bayındır Söğütözü (Ankara), Kent (İzmir), Bursa, Kayseri, Adana, Bodrum and Eskişehir hospitals.

Twelve hospitals in one city — choosing the right one

Acıbadem is the most spread-out of the five groups on these pages, with twelve hospitals in Istanbul. They are not all the same size or the same kind. Maslak is the large flagship by floor area; International in Yeşilköy is a smaller hospital that joined the group in 2005 and was rebranded in 2014; the others are district hospitals.

The practical consequence is that "Acıbadem" tells you little about the building that will treat you. Ask the Health Point team which hospital is proposed for your procedure and why, and look at that hospital's own page and its own accreditation.

The Health Point international service

Health Point is Acıbadem's international-patient arrangement. At Maslak the group describes a dedicated centre for international patients, and it states offices in 33 countries. The group's site offers a "Request Pricing" option on each hospital and a "Medical Second Opinion" service. Ask what the second opinion costs and who writes it, and whether the Health Point office you speak to is employed by the hospital or is an agent in your country. In Türkiye an intermediary that arranges treatment needs its own authorisation from USHAŞ, separate from the hospital's authorisation.[5][3]

Accreditation: "seven JCI hospitals" is not a name

The group's corporate page lists "JCI Accreditation — Approved Hospitals (7)", together with TÜRKAK, ISO and ASHI accreditations. Seven out of thirty hospitals is a minority, and the page, as we read it, does not name them. Acıbadem Maslak's page states JCI accreditation; we did not find the same statement on the International hospital's page.

That is the gap to close before you book. JCI's public register lists accredited organisations by name, which makes it a better test than a badge on any hospital's site.[1] TÜRKAK is Türkiye's national accreditation agency, which accredits certification and testing bodies rather than hospitals; we did not establish what the group means by its ISO and ASHI entries, and the page does not say which hospitals they cover. TÜSKA is the Turkish register that accredits health facilities.[2]

What we could not establish

We could not confirm which seven hospitals the group counts as JCI-approved, nor read the register ourselves. We read two Istanbul hospital pages in detail and did not read the other ten. We found no outcome data and no prices.

Questions to ask

  1. Which Acıbadem hospital will treat me, and which JCI or TÜSKA accreditation does that specific building hold?

  2. Is the Health Point office I'm speaking with part of the hospital or an independent agent, and what is its authorisation?[5]

  3. Who is my named consultant, and how many cases of this procedure have they and the unit done in the last 12 months?

  4. What does the written price include and exclude, and what happens if I need to stay longer or return to theatre?

  5. Will I receive a full discharge summary and imaging in a format my own doctor can use?

  6. Who answers questions after I leave, in which language, and for how long?

Not yet established

What we are still confirming. We update this page as each is settled.

  • Which seven hospitals are counted as JCI-approved.
  • Whether the International hospital is currently JCI-accredited.
  • Details and accreditations of the ten Istanbul hospitals we did not read.
  • The independent basis for the export and foreign-patient figures.
  • Outcome data and prices; the group publishes neither and invites you to "Request Pricing".
