In brief

Florence Nightingale Hospitals is an Istanbul hospital group founded in 1989 that runs four hospitals — İstanbul (Şişli), Gayrettepe, Kadıköy and Ataşehir — and a Center for International Patients. It states that its depth is in cardiac surgery, oncology and organ transplantation; whether it suits you depends on which campus treats you and on an accreditation status you should confirm at the register rather than on the group's website.[1]

The hospital

What Florence Nightingale Hospitals is

Grup Florence Nightingale is a private hospital group based in Istanbul. By its own account the first hospital opened in 1989 as a 50-bed health centre performing about 250 open-heart operations a year, and grew into a 352-bed reference hospital that has since performed more than 2,000 open-heart operations. Gayrettepe followed in 1997, Kadıköy in 2007, and the purpose-built İstanbul hospital in 2013.

The group also names a teaching link: its corporate material describes Demiroğlu Bilim University (established 2013) as part of the group's structure, alongside a clinical research centre and a GMP facility. The group's chairman and chief executive is Prof. Dr. Cemşid Demiroğlu.

The size of the group is described slightly differently on two of its own pages. The international-patient page says four general hospitals and two medical centres; the chairman's message says four hospitals and three medical centres, one of them in London. Neither page changes what a visitor to Istanbul would use, but it is a reminder to ask for the specific facility rather than rely on a group-wide summary.

  • Gastroenterology (gastroscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP), paediatrics, obstetrics and physical medicine and rehabilitation are also listed.

Ataşehir Florence Nightingale Hospital

Ataşehir, Istanbul (Asian side)

  • The hospital states that it provides services every day, around the clock, with a focus on obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, internal medicine, general surgery, and orthopaedics with hand surgery.
  • It states that radiology and laboratory support are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for all of its branches.

What the four campuses are for

A group name can hide the fact that a patient is treated in one building. The four Istanbul campuses are not interchangeable, and by the group's own descriptions they specialise differently. İstanbul (Şişli) is the large, newest building and the one built with international patients in mind. Gayrettepe is the oncology and imaging site. Kadıköy is the cardiac site. Ataşehir is a general hospital with an emphasis on women's and children's health, internal medicine and orthopaedics.

If your reason for travelling is a cardiac procedure, a cancer diagnosis or a transplant evaluation, the useful question is therefore not "is Florence Nightingale good?" but "which campus will treat me, and who is the named consultant there?" Campus-level descriptions are in the list above.

International patients: what the group says it offers

The group runs a Center for International Patients (CIP). It states that, from first enquiry, CIP staff arrange physician review of medical records, contact patients or relatives about next steps, organise transfers within Türkiye, and plan the hospital stay.

The regions the CIP page names are the Middle East and Gulf, North Africa, Central Asia and the Caucasus, the Balkans and Eastern Europe. Western Europe is not on that list. That is not evidence that the group cannot treat a patient from the UK or Germany — it is a description of where its international desk has concentrated — but a reader from those countries should ask the CIP directly about language support and post-operative follow-up at home, rather than assume the service has been built around them.

In Türkiye, a facility that treats international patients needs a health-tourism authorisation from the Ministry of Health, and an intermediary that arranges treatment needs a separate one from USHAŞ.[2][4] Ask which entity you are contracting with, and check its authorisation.

Accreditation: claims, and where to check them

The group's international-patient page lists "Joint Commission International Accreditation Certification" against 2004 and "ISO 9001 Quality Assurance System Certification" against 2001 in its timeline. In the text of the same page it says that the group "continuously pursue[s] accreditation from the Joint Commission International". Those two statements are not the same: one records a certificate in a given year; the other describes an ongoing aim. Neither tells you whether a particular campus holds a current JCI certificate today.

A JCI accreditation either appears in JCI's public register or it does not, which makes it checkable in a way that a badge on a hospital's own website is not.[1] Türkiye has also set a 31 December 2026 deadline for authorised health-tourism facilities to complete national accreditation with TÜSKA, and that institute publishes the list of organisations it has accredited.[5] We have not been able to confirm either status for any Florence Nightingale campus, and this page makes no claim that it holds them.

How to use this profile

Treat everything above that is attributed to the hospital as a description of what it says about itself, accurate as of the date we read its pages. Treat the accreditation section as a to-do list, not a conclusion. We have no commercial relationship with this group, it has not reviewed this page, and nothing here is a recommendation to choose it or to avoid it.

Questions to ask

  1. Which campus will treat me, and who is the named consultant who will be responsible for my care?

  2. Is my procedure one this campus performs regularly? How many in the last 12 months?

  3. Which entity do I sign with

the hospital, the group, or an intermediary — and what is its health-tourism authorisation number?

  4. Does the campus currently hold JCI accreditation, and can you give me the expiry date so I can check it at JCI?

  5. Who answers medical questions after I fly home, in which language, and for how long?

  6. What happens, and who pays, if I need an unplanned return to theatre or an extended stay?

Not yet established

What we are still confirming. We update this page as each is settled.

  • Whether any campus holds a current JCI certificate. JCI's register is not reliably readable by automated tools, and we have not confirmed a listing by hand.
  • Whether any campus is on TÜSKA's list of accredited organisations.
  • The street address of the Ataşehir hospital, which we did not capture from the group's page.
  • Outcome data of any kind. The group publishes none that we found, and we do not infer quality from the list of "firsts" on its timeline.
  • Prices. The group publishes none; we publish none.
Related questions

Asked often

Where are the Florence Nightingale hospitals in Istanbul?

The group states four hospitals: İstanbul Florence Nightingale in Şişli (Abide-i Hürriyet Cad. No: 166), Gayrettepe in Beşiktaş (Cemil Aslan Güder Sk. No: 8), Kadıköy on the Asian side (Bağdat Cad. No: 63), and Ataşehir on the Asian side. It also lists a Kadıköy medical centre.

Is Florence Nightingale Hospital JCI accredited?

The group lists JCI accreditation against 2004 in its timeline and says it continuously pursues JCI accreditation. Neither statement confirms a current certificate for a specific campus. Check JCI's public register by hospital name before relying on it.[1]

Which Florence Nightingale hospital is best for heart surgery?

By the group's own descriptions Kadıköy is its multidisciplinary cardiac centre, with three operating theatres and a cardiovascular surgery intensive care capacity, and the group's history begins with open-heart surgery. That is a statement about where the service is located, not a ranking; ask for the named surgeon and their annual case numbers.

Does Florence Nightingale treat patients from Europe and the UK?

Its international-patient page names the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Balkans and Eastern Europe as the regions its Center for International Patients serves. Western European patients are not excluded by that wording, but should ask the centre about language support and follow-up care at home.

Can I get a second opinion before I travel?

The group states that physicians review medical records submitted through its international-patient centre, and that its İstanbul hospital's radiology room can link by video with physicians abroad. Ask what the review costs, if anything, and who signs it.

Does TurkeyHealth.care have a partnership with Florence Nightingale Hospitals?

No. We hold no agreement with any hospital, take no commission and have not been paid by this group. It did not review this page.
