In brief

Medicana Health Group is a Turkish hospital group founded in 1992 that states it runs 16 hospitals and 3 medical centres, with Istanbul hospitals including Beylikdüzü (International), Ataşehir, Kadıköy, Zincirlikuyu, Ataköy, Çamlıca, Avcılar and Bahçelievler. Its accreditations are stated per hospital, not for the group as a whole, so the right question is which Medicana hospital will treat you and what that specific hospital can show at the register.[1]

The hospital

What Medicana is

Medicana Health Group is the health arm of Medicana Group, a company that also runs schools and a university (Fenerbahçe University, dated 2016 on the group's page). The board is chaired by Dr. Hüseyin Bozkurt. By the group's own account the first foundations were laid in 1992 and its hospitals have opened steadily since: Avcılar in 1995, Çamlıca in 1999, Bahçelievler in 2003, the International hospitals in Istanbul and Ankara in 2008, then Samsun, Konya, Sivas, Kadıköy, Bursa, İzmir, Ataşehir, Çeşme, Ataköy, Zincirlikuyu, and in 2025 Sarajevo and Winchester (UK).

The group's "about" page says it runs 16 hospitals and 3 medical centres and treats more than 4.5 million patients a year. Its own list of hospitals names 18 entries, some of which are medical centres, so the arithmetic depends on how an entry is counted. We use the figures as the group states them and do not reconcile them.

Which Medicana hospital an international patient is likely to use

Medicana puts "International" in the name of four hospitals: Istanbul (Beylikdüzü), Ankara, İzmir and Samsun. The group also operates a separate website for international patients (medicanainternational.com) in several languages. For a visitor flying into Istanbul, the practical choices are the Beylikdüzü hospital on the western edge of the city, and the central and Asian-side hospitals — Zincirlikuyu, Ataşehir, Kadıköy, Ataköy — that opened since 2017 and are closer to the hotels most visitors use.

Beylikdüzü is a large complex and displays a health-tourism authorisation on its page. We read that one hospital page in detail and did not check whether the newer central hospitals display or hold one. That is a gap, not a finding — so check the Ministry's register by hospital name before you book.[4]

Accreditation at Medicana is hospital by hospital

This is the single most useful thing to understand about the group. Medicana's quality page does not claim one accreditation for the group; it lists, hospital by hospital, which body accredited which building in which year. Three bodies appear.

  • TÜSKA (SAS). Türkiye's own accreditation institute and its Health Accreditation Standards. The group states it for International Ankara, Ataköy, Ataşehir and International İstanbul. TÜSKA publishes the list of organisations it has accredited, which is where to check.[1]
  • AACI. The American Accreditation Commission International, a private US-based accreditor. The group states it for Ataşehir, International İstanbul and International İzmir, together with clinical-centre-of-excellence certificates in endoscopy and oncology. An accreditor's award is only as useful as its register is public; ask the hospital for the certificate number and check it with AACI.
  • JCI. Joint Commission International, stated for Medicana Bursa (2025). We found no JCI statement for the Istanbul hospitals.[2]

A reader who sees "internationally accredited" on a Medicana page should therefore ask: which hospital, which body, which year, and is it in that body's register today? A certificate held by Bursa does not describe the building you will be treated in at Beylikdüzü.

Clinical areas the group says it covers

The group lists oncology and surgical oncology, organ transplantation, bone-marrow transplantation, neurosurgery, IVF, genetics, cardiovascular surgery, orthopaedics and traumatology, and obesity surgery among its branches. The listing is group-wide. Not every hospital offers every branch, and the hospital-level pages are where the departments are named; for a transplant, bone-marrow or IVF programme in particular, ask which hospital runs it and who leads it.

What we could not establish

We could not confirm any of the accreditations above at the accreditor's register, and the group's pages give no outcome data, waiting times or prices. This page is a map of what Medicana says and where to check it, not a verdict on its care.

Questions to ask

  1. Which Medicana hospital will treat me, and which unit and consultant?

  2. Which accreditations does that building hold, from which body, and when do they expire?

  3. What is the hospital's health-tourism authorisation number, and is the contracting party the hospital or an intermediary?[3][5]

  4. For an oncology, transplant or IVF programme: how many cases did that unit treat last year?

  5. Will I deal with the International patient team in my language, and how long does that support continue after discharge?

  6. What happens if I need to stay longer or return to theatre

    who pays?

Not yet established

What we are still confirming. We update this page as each is settled.

  • Whether any accreditation listed above is current today at its own register.
  • Whether the Medicana hospitals in Istanbul other than Beylikdüzü display or hold a health-tourism authorisation.
  • The group-level hospital count, which the group states as 16 on one page and lists as 18 entries on another.
  • Outcome data and prices, neither of which the group publishes.
Related questions

Asked often

How many Medicana hospitals are there in Istanbul?

From the group's own list: Beylikdüzü (International İstanbul), Ataşehir, Kadıköy, Zincirlikuyu, Ataköy, Çamlıca (hospital and medical centre), Avcılar and Bahçelievler — eight or nine sites depending on how the Çamlıca medical centre is counted.

Which Medicana hospital is for international patients?

Four hospitals carry "International" in their names — İstanbul (Beylikdüzü), Ankara, İzmir and Samsun — and the group runs a separate international website. Beylikdüzü is the Istanbul site that displays a health-tourism authorisation on its page.

Is Medicana JCI accredited?

The group's quality page states JCI accreditation for Medicana Bursa (2025) only. For its Istanbul hospitals it states TÜSKA and AACI accreditation instead. Check any JCI claim in JCI's public register.[2]

What is AACI accreditation?

AACI is the American Accreditation Commission International, a private accreditor. Medicana states it for Ataşehir, International İstanbul and International İzmir. It is a different body from JCI and from TÜSKA; ask for the certificate number and check it with AACI.

Does one Medicana accreditation cover the whole group?

Not according to the group's own quality page, which lists each accreditation against a named hospital. A certificate held by one hospital does not describe another.

Does TurkeyHealth.care have a partnership with Medicana?

No. We hold no agreement with any hospital, take no commission and have not been paid by this group. It did not review this page.
