Hair Transplants in Turkey: What Nobody Tells You

Turkey performs over 700,000 hair transplants a year. The results can be extraordinary — or disappointing. The difference is in the details.

Turkey has become the global capital of hair restoration surgery. The country now performs an estimated 700,000 to 1 million hair transplant procedures annually, attracting patients primarily from the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and the Gulf states. Istanbul's Şişli district alone has over 400 registered hair transplant clinics. The range in quality — and outcome — is enormous.

FUE vs DHI: The Technique Debate

Most reputable Turkish clinics now offer both FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and DHI (Direct Hair Implantation). FUE involves extracting individual follicular units and implanting them using a recipient-site-first approach; DHI uses a patented Choi implanter pen that combines extraction and implantation in a single step, theoretically improving graft survival rates. The choice between techniques depends on the individual's hair characteristics, donor density, and the area being treated — any clinic that recommends one technique for every patient without a thorough consultation is a warning sign.

The Six Questions to Ask Before You Book

Will my procedure be performed by a surgeon or by technicians? (In many budget clinics, surgeons are absent.)
What is the graft survival rate from your last 100 procedures?
Can I see before-and-after photos from patients with similar hair characteristics?
What post-operative medication and shampoo protocol do you provide?
Do you offer a follow-up consultation at 6 and 12 months?
Which extraction and implantation instruments are used, and are they clinic-owned?

Why Budget Clinics Disappoint

The economics of the lowest-priced hair clinics are straightforward: to offer procedures at €1,200–€1,500, these clinics operate on volume, performing four to six procedures per day per doctor — often without a doctor present at all. Technicians, not surgeons, extract and implant the grafts. Graft survival rates suffer because of inexperience, poor handling, and rushed implantation. The disappointment typically becomes apparent at the 12-month mark, when regrowth is patchy or unnatural in hairline design.

Silver Circle's hair restoration partners charge more — typically €2,200–€3,800 for a full procedure — but every patient receives a pre-operative consultation with a board-certified surgeon, a surgeon-led extraction phase, and documented post-operative care. At the 12-month review, our partners' average regrowth rate exceeds 90% of implanted grafts. The difference is entirely in who is in the room.
