The group behind it, and how it counts itself

Memorial Ataşehir belongs to the Memorial Hospitals Group, which says it admitted its first patient in February 2000 and describes itself as the first hospital in Türkiye to receive a JCI accreditation certificate (the group's own statement; we have not checked it).

The group's own pages do not agree on its size. One describes 12 hospitals; another describes 11 hospitals, 2 medical centres and 1 wellness centre. Reach is given as 167 countries on one page and 92 countries on another. The group also states 75,000 international patients a year and more than 1,510 beds. We show both versions rather than choose one.

Accreditation is stated building by building, and Ataşehir is not listed

On its corporate presentation page the group names JCI for four buildings: Şişli, Ankara, Bahçelievler and Medstar Antalya. Memorial Ataşehir is not on that list. ISO 15189 is named for Şişli, and LEED Platinum for Bahçelievler.

Do not read the group's JCI statements as covering this hospital. Check the JCI public register for Memorial Ataşehir by name and ask the hospital for a current certificate.

International patients service

The group runs Memorial International Patient Center (MIPC), reached on +90 549 639 3366, with an office at Istanbul Airport and a UK office at 9 Queen Square, Leeds LS2 8AJ.

The coordinator languages the group lists do not include German or Dutch. If you need either, ask in writing whether a coordinator who speaks it exists before you book.

Questions to ask

  1. Current accreditation and expiry

ask for the certificate, then find it on the accreditor's own register.[4][5]

  2. Who you contract with

the hospital, the group or an agent — and that entity's health-tourism authorisation.[2][3]

  3. Your named consultant

who operates, and how many of your procedure they perform each year.

  4. A coordinator in your language

a named person, with hours that work from your own country. The group's coordinator list has no German or Dutch speaker, so ask for one in writing if you need either.

  5. Follow-up after you fly home

who you contact, and how your records reach your own doctor.

  6. Every charge, in writing

one itemised quote, with exclusions stated before you commit.
